The weather only affords you a brief moment to inspect the footprints and the scene has been trodden by many feet since the murder. You cannot make out much but you can glean that none of the tracks indicate anyone running. Murders that are decided in the heat of a moment normally cause the attacker to flee from the scene yet you see no signs of that here. Whoever did this was calm and had probably planned to murder the man before they arrived.
